The Famous Five are India's pride

If you can average more than 50 in Test matches, then you are a truly exceptional player. Time was when a team would be happy if they had 1-2 players with such an average. The current Indian batting line-up boasts of four such players: Sachin Tendulkar (56.6), Virender Sehwag (54.7), Rahul Dravid (53.3) and Gautam Gambhir (50.7). VVS Laxman follows closely at 47.6.

So, is this India`s greatest batting line-up of all time?

It`s not just about runs and records. There are victories to back it all up. We have been the ICC No. 1 team for a year now. More importantly, Team India has not lost a Test series for more than two years. We lost to Sri Lanka 1-2 in August 2008. After that we have been undefeated for nine series including the recent 1-0 result over New Zealand.

The above list includes the top teams of the world: Australia, South Africa, England and Sri Lanka. To beat Australia 2-0 is a rarity and to do that twice in a row requires an exceptional effort.

While Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Pragyan Ojha and Ishant Sharma have given great bowling performances, they have either been in and out of the team or not always in top form. The batting, on the other hand, has been largely consistent.
